This call comes following the appointment of Senator Ibrahim Geidam, who previously represented Yobe East senatorial district, as the Minister of Police Affairs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023, resulting in a vacant position.
Addressing the press in Damaturu, the leader of the Coalition of Concern Groups advocating for the former IGP, Muhammad Baba Ismail, stated that their primary objective is to formally request Usman Baba Alkali to contest the vacant senatorial position based on his illustrious history of selfless service throughout his distinguished public service career.
Ismail articulated their mission, saying, “In a resounding demonstration of solidarity and unwavering faith in the impact of exemplary leadership, a Coalition of Concern Groups dedicated to advancing the welfare of Yobe State has fervently called upon the former Inspector General of Police to consider running for the Yobe East senatorial seat once it becomes vacant.
“Alkali Baba Usman, the former Inspector General of Police, has earned widespread respect and admiration due to his illustrious career in public service, marked by an unwavering commitment to upholding the law, enhancing security, and implementing critical reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
“Under his visionary leadership, the Nigeria Police Force underwent transformative reforms that not only strengthened public confidence but also made significant contributions to Nigeria’s development and progress.”
