In adopting a motion of urgent public importance, the House strongly condemned the violence, killings, destruction, the imposition of movement restrictions, and assaults perpetrated by the Police against the people of Oshodi-Isolo.
The House further urged relevant security agencies to deploy sufficient security measures and personnel to ensure the safety of the area.
It also called upon the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other pertinent agencies to provide relief and assistance to the victims of the violence.
The motion’s sponsor, Jesse Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, informed the House that both the police and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) had unleashed violence on residents of Ago Road and its surroundings on Tuesday, October 3.
He emphasized that the people in Oshodi Isolo II Federal Constituency had endured prolonged fear and distress and that the recent surge in violence and assaults by the Police and LASMA officers had created an atmosphere of insecurity that posed a threat not only to their lives but also to their livelihoods.
