The renowned playwright expressed his willingness to forgo any legal protections afforded by the statute of limitations. He insisted that the laws governing fraudulent academic records should be fully invoked and applied to address the allegations against him.

Furthermore, Soyinka preemptively declared that, should he be found guilty, he would renounce all the titles and honors he has accumulated throughout his career, regardless of their significance.

Soyinka asserted that if these allegations were once again proven baseless, all those accusing him should metaphorically “jump off the bridge of the symbolic River Niger.”

He mentioned that he had shared his statement with various organizations and entities, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Pan-African Writers Association in Accra, the Nigerian Association of Authors, the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, the University of Leeds, the alleged Bristol Primary Source, his school, and the media reporting on the issue.

Soyinka expressed his concern about the reemergence of a document containing false allegations, comparing it to similar tactics employed during the reign of General Sani Abacha. He pointed out that the document was now being circulated on the internet by a political party that claims to uphold freedom of opinion and expression.

While awaiting advice from his legal team on whether to pursue legal action against the current promoters of this document, Soyinka emphasized his willingness to cooperate fully with investigative agencies, including the Directorates of Prosecutions, EFCC, ICPC, and affected institutions, by providing any necessary evidence within the next thirty days.
