Rita Laranjinha, Managing Director of the EU’s External Action Service, conveyed this assurance during a briefing with Vice President Kashim Shettima about the upcoming Ministerial Dialogue scheduled for October 19.
Laranjinha pledged that the EU would continue to explore opportunities for collaboration and partnership with Nigeria.
She explained that her visit aimed to prepare for the Ministerial Dialogue, which will be chaired by the Vice President of the EU Mission and will involve discussions with Nigerian officials to assess the state of relations between the EU and Nigeria across various domains and plan future cooperation.
She emphasized the importance of the relationship between the EU and Nigeria, stating that Nigeria holds significance regionally, continentally, and globally, and the EU aims to be Nigeria’s preferred partner.
Laranjinha expressed gratitude to Vice President Shettima for his support and affirmed the EU’s commitment to collaborating with Nigeria in areas such as trade, investments, energy, digitalization, and peace and security matters.
Vice President Shettima, while welcoming the EU delegation to the Presidential Villa, reiterated Nigeria’s openness to effective interventions.
He stressed that mutual and beneficial partnerships align with President Tinubu’s foreign policy directive. Despite current challenges, he emphasized that the Tinubu administration remains a beacon of hope and pledged that Nigeria would rise above its difficulties, offering support not only to West Africa but also to the entire African continent.
