In a press statement issued in Awka on Saturday, Okeke-Ogene described this gesture as a tribute not only to the Igbo people but also to Africa and the entire black community.

He urged other South-East Governors to construct monuments to immortalize the late literary icon, who dedicated his life to promoting Igbo social and cultural identity worldwide.

Okeke-Ogene emphasized that Chinua Achebe, through his creative works, vehemently spoke out against “marginalization, injustice, and suppression of Ndigbo.”

He further highlighted that Achebe championed the causes of Africa and the black race globally, making significant sacrifices to amplify the voice and recognition of the Igbo people worldwide.

The statement also noted Achebe’s humble nature and his active role as the President General of Ogidi Town Union in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra until his passing.
