Justice Donatus Okorowo issued the ruling on Monday, October 9, 2023, declaring that Sylva was ineligible to contest the Bayelsa governorship race for the third time.

This decision was made in response to a lawsuit, numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/821/2023, filed by Chief Demesuoyefa Kolomo, an APC member, on June 13, 2023.

The plaintiff had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking Sylva’s disqualification from the governorship race on the grounds that Chief Sylva had previously been inaugurated as governor of Bayelsa State on two occasions.
