Kalu provided this assurance during a visit by members of the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), NCAA, GECORN, Womanifesto, and other Gender Bills Response Cluster (GBRC) representatives to the National Assembly in Abuja.

The deputy speaker pointed out the specific sections in the constitution that require amendments to enhance women’s participation in politics.

He emphasized the necessity to increase the representation of women, especially in a country like Nigeria, where women and girls constitute 49.32% of the population, but only occupy 4% of legislative positions.

In her presentation, Abiola Akiyode Afolabi, the founding Director of the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC), stated that their visit to the House aimed to seek the deputy speaker’s support in reintroducing the gender bills.
