This gathering comes in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s confirmation of President Tinubu’s election victory, dismissing the appeals presented by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

The Supreme Court’s unanimous decision aligned with the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on all matters.

Speaking with reporters following his meeting with President Tinubu, Jonathan emphasized that the elections have concluded, and it is now time to focus on advancing the nation. He called on all political leaders to collaborate in order to propel the country forward.

Jonathan stated, “The country must move forward. Elections are over, so we must move forward. Prof Lumumba emphasized the need for Nigeria to take a lead in Africa when he spoke in one of our programs. We have economic challenges at the moment, but we still possess the potential to lead.”

He added that he would continue to engage in discussions with President Tinubu, including providing updates on his foreign engagements, as these issues are of national importance.

It is customary for a former President to inform the current President when participating in continental, regional, or national programs abroad. This tradition serves the purpose of advancing Nigeria, ECOWAS, and the African continent.
