Falansa expressed his perspective during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
He contended that deciding the winners of elections is an exclusive responsibility of the country’s electoral authority.
Falana suggested that if the political class is honest and dedicated to conducting transparent elections, it wouldn’t be difficult to hold a fair election.
The Senior Advocate stressed that Nigeria, as the home to the world’s largest population of black people, holds a significant responsibility to ensure that credible elections are held. This is to prevent black people from facing insults and ridicule worldwide.
He stated, “Undoubtedly, the Supreme Court’s judgment concluded the presidential election dispute conducted in February this year.
However, it is not a judicial endorsement of INEC’s conduct of the election. Even with the judgment, it is clear that Nigeria still has a long way to go in terms of ensuring credible, harmonious, and praiseworthy elections. We are far from that point, despite the judgment.”
“The presidential election, which should have been concluded in February, has only just been concluded by the Supreme Court. It should not be this way. The judiciary should not be the entity determining election winners.”
