These labor organizations are slated to convene with the federal government for a review of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding concerning subsidy removal palliatives.
In anticipation of the meeting, organized labor has also expressed concern over the dire consequences of the forex crisis on the economy and has called for swift measures to stabilize the national currency.
In a statement titled “Urgent action to stabilize the naira amidst alarming depreciation,” the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, held government officials responsible for the severe depreciation of the country’s currency.
Ajaero emphasized that the adverse effects of a weakened currency would be borne by workers and the general population. He stated, “If that meeting takes place, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, will not be part of it, as we will not participate in any meeting with the Federal Government that includes the Minister of Labour and Employment.”
