have assumed control of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex and the entire Moscow Road area in Port Harcourt, where the complex is situated.
Additionally, approximately 17 patrol vehicles and four armored personnel carriers (APCs) have been deployed at the location.
The complex is positioned opposite the Court of Appeal building and adjacent to the Police Command headquarters in Port Harcourt.
This heightened security presence follows an explosion that occurred at the complex on Sunday night, resulting in significant damage to the revered chamber of the House of Assembly.
The alleged act of arson, attributed to political agitators, is believed to be linked to reported plans by lawmakers to initiate the removal of the Majority Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Eddison Ehie, scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2023.
There are also allegations that this move to impeach Ehie, a former deputy speaker of the 9th Assembly, is intended to set the stage for the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Monday morning, Moscow Road was completely blocked by the presence of security forces, who advised motorists and other road users to seek alternative routes to reach their destinations.
