It’s worth recalling that the National Assembly’s leadership had announced its intention to buy imported SUVs for each legislator, and bulletproof vehicles for the principal officers, amounting to millions of naira.
This decision has faced significant backlash, with many criticizing the lawmakers for their apparent insensitivity to the challenges faced by Nigerians in the midst of rising living costs.
Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have already begun receiving their Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs).
Similarly, members of the Senate are set to receive the first batch of these SUVs in the coming week.
In the same vein, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has strongly condemned Nigerian senators for their plan to acquire SUVs worth 160 million each.
He firmly asserted that these legislators are out of touch with the current hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.
Oguntoyinbo, in a statement released on Friday, expressed his dismay at the fact that the senators appeared to be oblivious to the suffering of the Nigerian population.
He lamented that citizens are enduring difficult circumstances due to the removal of fuel subsidies, yet the senators are seemingly taking advantage of the nation’s resources.
The NNPP leader questioned how those who are meant to represent the people could display such a lack of empathy.
