This assembly of activists, operating under the banner of Lawyers and Activists for Good Governance, emphasized their longstanding commitment to combating poor governance, spanning over a period of 16 years.
They appealed to the country’s security leadership to caution and appropriately manage politicians who persist in involving security agencies in the complex realm of politics by unwarranted and persistent attempts to compromise them through blackmail.
Approximately 500 advocates for good governance from various regions of Nigeria convened for a press conference in Abuja to voice their concerns.
They underscored the critical necessity of taking immediate action to ensure violence-free and crisis-free elections, particularly in Kogi State.
Their accusations were primarily directed at the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Muritala Yakubu, whom they accused of intentionally blackmailing both the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
to obstruct them from fulfilling their constitutionally mandated roles of safeguarding lives, property, and combating criminal activities.
The activists noted that this issue initially came to their attention in July when it was first reported. Comrade Mohammed Sanni, a Co-Convener of Lawyers and Activists for Good Governance, addressed the press conference, highlighting a recent press release.
