The Federal Government is prepared to offer financial support to the local Adire fabric industry through subsidies to boost its production.

Mrs. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, shared this information with reporters during her visit to the Adire Mall in Itoku, Abeokuta, on Saturday.

During her visit to the Adire fabric production facilities at Asero, the Minister revealed that the government aims to establish industrial hubs across the country to increase revenue for market women.

She assured market women that the government is committed to promoting the fabric on a global scale.

Edu stressed the importance of discontinuing the importation of foreign Adire products in order to bolster local production and meet the demand.

The Minister emphasized that government support and subsidies for local products would help eliminate fake, foreign-made Adire products in the Nigerian market.

By enhancing local production, the government aims to create job opportunities, strengthen the economy, and transition Nigeria from an importing nation to a manufacturing one.

Edu pointed out that this would contribute to a stable exchange rate and explained the government’s commitment to providing subsidies to Adire producers, similar to the approach taken with fuel subsidies.

She also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who pledged to create hubs in Abuja for the sale of original Adire products, providing an opportunity to showcase the fabric internationally.

The Minister expressed confidence that building the local Adire industry would benefit both producers and their families, further enhancing the fabric’s reputation worldwide.
