In a press release, Engr Igbini Emmanuel, President of VATLAD, stated that there is a lack of substantial and verifiable evidence from the APC to support the serious allegations of fraud against Governor Oborovweri.
Emmanuel mentioned that the condemnation and accusations are excessive, steering politics in a regressive direction.
He added that the failure of the party to provide substantial and verifiable evidence against Governor Oborovweri is an attempt to undermine the commendable efforts by the governor, efforts that the majority of people in Delta State have been celebrating and expressing gratitude for.
He explained that the APC did not refer to the approved Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) for these projects.
As an engineer with experience in the construction of roads, flyovers, bridges, and related projects, Emmanuel emphasized that a detailed analysis of the BEME matched with the actual site evaluation is necessary to determine whether there is any inflation of cost or an attempt to defraud citizens.
Furthermore, he highlighted that not all projects are identical and, therefore, should not be expected to cost the same.
While there may be variations, especially within similar environments like Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states, Emmanuel noted that there should not be significant differences, particularly if the projects are handled by the same company, such as Julius Berger.
Lastly, Emmanuel pointed out that the Delta State APC failed to provide any evidence of how Governor Sheriff Oborovweri intended to use an internationally reputable company like Julius Berger to defraud the people of Delta State with a substantial sum of fifty billion naira.
