A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday as Onoh Chukwuma, a Facebook user, reportedly took his own life by consuming an insecticide after losing N2.5 million to betting. On his Facebook wall, he posted a farewell message, indicating that it was his last day on earth, expressing gratitude to specific individuals. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to readers, he had already ingested the insecticide.
In his final post, Onoh thanked Chima Anyaso, Ikukuoma Abia, Kelvin Jombo Onumah, Ekwueme Ohafia, and his friends, stating, “Today is my last day on earth! I’m going to meet my maker. Thank you all. My spirit is with you.”
Upon discovering his distress, friends rushed Onoh to Madonna Hospital in Umuahia. Despite the medical professionals’ efforts to revive him, he did not survive. It was reported that the alleged N2.5 million betting loss became an unbearable burden, leading Onoh to take such drastic measures.
A friend, devastated by the news, shared the futile attempts made by doctors to resuscitate him. Another Facebook user questioned Onoh’s decision, revealing that he had N1 million and borrowed N1.5 million to engage in a failed bet, ultimately succumbing to shame from debtors.
Expressing sorrow, Facebook user Ibeako Esther Chisom described the heartbreaking moment when doctors confirmed Onoh’s death. Others, like Obika James Abuchi, expressed disbelief over the circumstances, questioning who influenced Onoh to take such a drastic step due to financial pressures.
Condolences and messages of grief have since flooded Onoh’s Facebook page as friends mourn the loss of a life cut short tragically.
