Idris Malagi, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, refuted allegations suggesting that the Federal Government played a role in instigating the political turmoil in Rivers State.During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Malagi clarified that the participation of individuals linked to President Bola Tinubu in the crisis should not be construed as implicating the All Progressives Congress government.
He asserted, “The occurrence of the crisis in Rivers does not automatically implicate the Federal Government as the orchestrator.”The minister highlighted the absence of concrete evidence linking the Federal Government to the crisis, stating, “I’ve not found evidence to suggest that the Federal Government is engineering the crisis.” Malagi acknowledged the tendency for speculation to arise due to the involvement of individuals associated with the central government, particularly members of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Drawing attention to similar political situations in states like Ondo, he pointed out instances where the President had intervened to resolve crises within the same political party.
Malagi underscored the government’s commitment to addressing political challenges in various states, reiterating that the primary focus is on maintaining stability and fostering resolution rather than inciting unrest.
