Prof. Adeyeye highlighted that the WHO’s approval of the CDCL is a significant achievement, underscoring NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of pharmaceutical products. The Director-General revealed that the pre-qualification approval was conveyed to the agency through a communication received from the WHO pre-qualification inspection team on September 15, with the success later published on the WHO website. The website address for reference and citation was also shared with NAFDAC for dissemination.

The DG emphasized the rarity of achieving the apex status of WHO pre-qualification, acknowledging the years-long journey that commenced in 2010 and culminated in this milestone. She commended the renewed efforts and commitment from NAFDAC’s management and the Federal Government over the past four years.

According to the DG, the WHO pre-qualification of the CDCL serves as a testament to NAFDAC’s unwavering dedication to meeting international standards of excellence in drug quality control and regulation. She highlighted the numerous benefits that this prestigious recognition brings, including global acknowledgment, improved pharmaceutical quality, international collaboration, and advancements in public health.

In summary, the WHO pre-qualification of NAFDAC’s Yaba laboratory represents a landmark achievement, positioning it among the select few laboratories globally with this esteemed status. The approval underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards in drug quality control and regulation, ultimately benefiting the Nigerian people through enhanced pharmaceutical quality and global recognition.
