Following yesterday’s resolution facilitated by President Tinubu, who held a closed-door meeting with the Rivers State Governor and Peter Odili in Aso Rock, an agreement was reached to halt all impeachment proceedings and resolve the crisis between the political rivals. Notably, this marks Tinubu’s second intervention in the Rivers state political crisis, with the first attempt proving unsuccessful.
Oseni Rufai, sharing insights on his Twitter handle, contends that Fubara’s endorsement of the ceasefire agreements has tilted the scales in favor of Wike. He expresses his view, saying, “I talked about how a ceasefire will favor Wike. I think Fubara just lost the fight after signing those agreements of the ceasefire. Those lawmakers will be used against him. I might be wrong, but Wike has effectively consolidated, and Fubara has probably lost the plot. I might be wrong!”
Furthermore, Rufai suggests that Governor Fubara has disappointed those who supported him, including Boma Goodhead. He criticizes Fubara’s decision to sign the peace agreement, stating, “Whoever told Sim to sign that agreement didn’t advise him properly. A governor must assert himself in his state. Sim clearly doesn’t understand that he let down a lot of people by signing the peace agreement, people like Boma Goodhead that fought for him. If he thinks that will get Wike off his back, he is clearly delusional.”
