The announcement conveyed that Governor Akeredolu passed away in Germany on Wednesday after a protracted battle with prostate cancer. The statement expressed deep sorrow over the loss, acknowledging the profound void left by the governor’s departure.

The statement read, “With a heavy heart, the Ondo State Government announces the passing of our beloved Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON. Mr. Governor peacefully departed from this world in the early hours of today, Wednesday, December 27, 2023. This tragedy has left behind a profound void in our hearts.”

It further detailed that Governor Akeredolu succumbed to complications arising from the prolonged struggle with prostate cancer while undergoing medical treatment in Germany. A formal letter had been sent to President Bola Tinubu to officially inform him of the governor’s demise.

The statement expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support during Governor Akeredolu’s illness. The family and the Ondo State Government, it noted, would release additional details regarding funeral arrangements.

Governor Akeredolu was eulogized as an extraordinary leader whose unwavering commitment to the state and its people was commendable.
