In a condolence message personally signed by Dr. Jonathan, he described the late Governor as a sincere patriot and legal luminary who placed a high value on equity, justice, and the overall peace of the nation, prioritizing these principles above personal, political, and ethnic considerations.
The former President highlighted Governor Akeredolu’s legacy of forthrightness and his commitment to constitutionalism, democracy, and good governance. Dr. Jonathan acknowledged Akeredolu as a distinguished lawyer and politician who played a significant role in shaping democratic governance and fostering peace and development in Nigeria.
In his words, Dr. Jonathan remarked, “Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu was a prominent lawyer and politician who contributed to the advancement of democratic governance, advocating for constitutionalism, democracy, and good governance. His dedication to service was evident as he served his state and the nation diligently, embodying the qualities of a sincere patriot who prioritized equity, justice, collective peace, and national unity over personal, political, and ethnic interests.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, particularly his wife, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, as well as the government and people of Ondo State.
