On Friday, the African Import-Export Bank provided the Federal Government with a foreign exchange support facility amounting to $2.25 billion. In response to the current economic challenges faced by Nigeria, Edun mentioned that efforts are underway to find solutions. The Minister disclosed that the remaining balance of $1.05 billion is expected to be received in the first week of January. This financial support comes at a crucial time, considering the acute FX shortage that has been a significant obstacle to economic stability.
This development follows the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s announcement in August, revealing its successful acquisition of a $3 billion emergency loan from the Afrexim Bank. The primary objective of that loan was to bring stability to Nigeria’s volatile foreign exchange market. As work progresses on addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges, these financial interventions are anticipated to contribute to mitigating the existing issues and fostering economic resilience.
