The late Governor passed away on December 27, 2023, in Germany, following an extended illness at the age of 67. According to Olatunde’s post, the plane carrying the governor’s body landed around 3:39 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
The reception at the airport included Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the late Governor’s wife, his children, and siblings led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother. Notable dignitaries such as Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde, and Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, joined in receiving the body. Also present were the representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke, APC Chairman in Ondo State Ade Adetimehin, House of Representatives member Hon. Gboyega Adefarati, and several members of the Ondo State Executive Council, led by Secretary to the State Government Princess Oladunni Odu.
Emotions ran high as family members, followers, friends, and associates witnessed the solemn moment when the late Governor’s body was lowered from the plane. Reports indicate that the remains have been placed in the morgue pending the final burial.
Details of the burial arrangements will be disclosed by the family at a later date, as mentioned by the former governor’s aide.
