Former Rivers State Social Democratic Party (SDP) Governorship candidate, Senator Magnus Abe, expressed openness to collaborating with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike if Wike decides to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on his intention to rejoin the APC, Abe stated that the issues that led to his departure from the party have been resolved. He also highlighted his support for President Bola Tinubu and the need to safeguard the interests of his followers within the APC.
Addressing the potential entry of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike into the APC, Abe, who had previously had differences with Wike, expressed support for the move, citing Wike’s capacity and the value he could bring to the APC. Abe refrained from commenting on the status of APC chieftain and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, stating that he is not aware of any complaints from Amaechi.
In a related development, three SDP House of Assembly candidates in the 2023 general elections in Rivers State, namely Choker Orlu, Bright Amadi, and Owaji Augustus, defected to the APC. Additionally, 10 ward chairmen from the SDP in Obio/Akpor local government area, along with numerous party members and supporters, also joined the APC.
Chairman of the APC caretaker committee, Chief Tony Okocha, welcomed the defectors at the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt. Okocha expressed optimism that the newcomers would bring value to the APC and emphasized the party’s unity, declaring that there would be no factions within the APC in Rivers State. He assured the new members that they were welcomed into the APC family without any resistance and encouraged them to contribute positively to the party.
