The police disclosed that Oderereke’s gang was notorious for engaging in armed robbery, land grabbing, unauthorized property sales, and brutal attacks against those opposing them. Acting on information received on January 11, 2024, regarding a robbery operation involving Oderereke’s gang, which included vandalizing the property of the late monarch, Eze Robinson O. Robinson, the police swiftly responded.

The police pursued the criminals out of town after the gang attempted to loot a community-owned tank farm in Oderereke. During the confrontation, the defiant ‘General’ and his gang opened fire on the police team, resulting in a shootout that led to the neutralization of Oderereke and his accomplice. Two other gang leaders, Danger-boy and 2-Man, managed to escape and are currently at large.

A subsequent search of the gang’s hideout uncovered a G3 Rifle and nineteen 7.62x51mm ammunition. Further investigations revealed a camp established by Oderereke between Oderereke and Olokuma communities, serving as a base for the cult leader and his numerous followers for launching robbery attacks on neighboring communities.

Relieved members of affected communities shared their experiences, recounting the mayhem caused by the cult group, which had prompted some residents to relocate to Port Harcourt. State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the operatives for their discreet investigation and successful neutralization of the hoodlums.

CP Disu issued a stern warning to cultists and criminal gangs, urging them to reform or face the consequences. He emphasized that the command, under his leadership, would make the state inhospitable for such elements until they are apprehended.
