Buhari acknowledged that the APC might have underestimated the electoral challenge in Katsina, assuming an easy victory due to the state being his home turf. Reflecting on the outcome, he emphasized the significance of not taking voters for granted.

In his own words, Buhari stated, “My state, Katsina, showed the beauty of the whole system. In the Presidential poll, APC lost, but they came back to win the governorship. Maybe they took things for granted earlier because it was my state, and they thought they would win easily. People do not like being taken for granted.”

It is noteworthy that the APC’s candidate, Bola Tinubu, faced defeat in Katsina against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Despite this setback, Tinubu ultimately emerged victorious in the overall presidential election, triumphing over Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. The memoir, penned by former Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, provides insights into the dynamics of the electoral process and the lessons learned from the experience in Katsina.
