The daring raid led to the arrest of Bello Mohammed, 28, along with the recovery of ₦2.25 million (Two Million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira) suspected to be proceeds of ransoms collected from kidnapped victims within the area.

According to Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, the arrested suspect confessed to being part of the gang responsible for the kidnapping of Barrister Ariyo’s family members in Bwari, FCT, on January 2, 2024. Disturbingly, Bello also admitted to killing some of the kidnapped victims, including Nabeeha, the daughter of the legal practitioner, on January 13, 2024, in a kidnappers’ camp in Kaduna State.

In a shocking revelation during interrogation, Bello Mohammed attempted to influence the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Tafa Division, by offering ₦1,000,000 (one million naira only). However, the upright DPO rejected the bribe, carrying out his duty diligently.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has ordered that the suspect be handed over to the DFI-IRT in Abuja for discreet investigations into the matter. The IGP also directed a thorough inquiry into the involvement of five neutralized bandits in Kaduna, linked to the IRT, headed by one Mai Gemu (aka Godara), whose deadly camp has been destroyed.

Commending the commitment and professionalism displayed by the DPO Tafa, SP Idris Ibrahim, in handling the case, the IGP assured Nigerians that the Police would spare no effort in decimating criminally minded individuals. The commitment is aimed at ensuring the security and safety of all citizens, contributing to a more secure society in Nigeria. The suspect is currently cooperating with the police in ongoing investigations.
