Ogbonna emphasized that the ban aligns with similar measures adopted by other states, including Lagos. Consequently, the public is strongly advised to cease the use of Styrofoam foils pending a thorough investigation into the potential hazards posed to public health by this material.

During the January 2024 Clean Up exercise in Umuahia, the state capital, several individuals found in violation of these directives faced arrests and subsequent sanctions. These defaulters, apprehended in different parts of the State capital during designated environmental sanitation hours, were engaging in activities such as trading or loitering, contravening the government’s earlier directives.

Despite these enforcement actions, the cleanup initiative witnessed substantial compliance from the residents, with many actively participating in cleaning their gutters. Furthermore, the State government facilitated the process by deploying trucks to evacuate generated wastes, contributing to the overall success of the sanitation effort.
