Jonathan will head a team comprising experts from diverse fields within the Commonwealth to monitor the upcoming general elections on February 8 in Pakistan. The primary objective is to deliver an unbiased and thorough evaluation of the electoral process. The Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) will be assisted by a team led by Linford Andrews, the Adviser and Head of the Electoral Support Section at the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on February 1, the 13-member observer group will stay in the country until the conclusion of the electoral process.

Eze also cited Commonwealth Secretary-General Rt Hon Patricia Scotland, who expressed appreciation to Jonathan for accepting the assignment. Scotland acknowledged Pakistan’s commitment to transparency and responsibility, expressing support for the nation’s democratic advancements and optimism for a peaceful and fair election.

The Commonwealth urged all stakeholders, including political entities and their supporters, to actively contribute to ensuring a peaceful election in line with Commonwealth principles.

Additionally, Scotland highlighted that a comprehensive report, containing recommendations to enhance future electoral procedures, will be presented to the Pakistani government, the Election Commission, and other relevant entities.
