Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared a monetary reward of N2 million for each of the top four graduating students at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. The announcement was made during the combined 32nd and 33rd convocation held on Wednesday, encompassing academic sessions 2021/2022 and 2022/2023, where more than 15,000 students received degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s Degrees, and PhD awards across diverse disciplines………CONTINUE READING
Identified as the overall best graduating students with a remarkable 4.86 CGPA were Talabi Ayomide (Biochemistry), Adesanya Damilola (Pharmacology), and Alabi Ifeoluwa (Computer Engineering). Governor Abiodun presented each of them with a cash reward of N2 million. Additionally, Miss Adegoke Azeezat, a Pharmacology graduate with a CGPA of 4.90, received the same cash award for being the overall best graduating student for the 2022/2023 academic session. Each department’s best graduand was also promised a N500,000 cash reward.
Addressing the graduates, Governor Abiodun, represented by Deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, affirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing education through robust funding and comprehensive support. He urged the graduates to serve as proud ambassadors of the university, emphasizing that their degrees equipped them with essential skills to be innovators and problem solvers. Acknowledging the evolving business environment, he advised them to see their degrees as the beginning of a new phase in their lives, encouraging them to strive for excellence in a competitive work environment.
Earlier in the convocation, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Ayodeji Agboola, highlighted the administration’s initiatives to enhance academic excellence and fulfill the university’s vision. He mentioned the introduction of 10 new programs, including Medical Laboratory Science and Forensic Science, the establishment of a Business School, and the imminent operation of the Open and Distance Learning Centre. Prof Agboola’s vision for the next ten years (2023-2033) is to transform OOU into a world-class institution producing graduates driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and global employment.
Congratulating the graduates, Prof Agboola urged them to leverage their acquired knowledge to contribute positively to the world and remain proud ambassadors of the university. He expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun and the university’s Governing Board, led by Prof Toyin Ashiru, for their unwavering commitment to prioritizing quality education, which has significantly enhanced academic excellence and infrastructural development at the university.
