The Defence Headquarters has expressed concern that the surge in kidnappings nationwide has cast a shadow over the achievements of the military in countering terrorists in the Northern region. Maj. Gen. Edward highlighted the unfortunate overshadowing effect of kidnapping incidents on the commendable efforts of the military in tackling terrorist threats across the country. He emphasized the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security, acknowledging the need for an immediate turnaround in the prevailing situation.

The statement further outlined the successes achieved by the troops, including the rescue of 71 abducted citizens. Additionally, during the reviewed week, 44 individuals involved in oil theft were apprehended, and 71 kidnapped hostages were rescued. The military also thwarted an estimated N1,065,885,050.00 worth of oil theft in the South-South region.

The statement concluded by reporting the recovery of 224 assorted weapons and 2,337 assorted ammunition by the troops, underlining the military’s continuous efforts to create a safer environment for citizens and curb criminal activities across the country.
