While Nigerian artists such as Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, Asake, and Olamide faced disappointment at the 66th Grammys, with Tyla clinching the sole non-Nigerian nomination and ultimately winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance category, Daddy Freeze defended the decision.
In response to queries from fans during a recent Instagram live session, Daddy Freeze maintained that Tyla’s Grammy triumph was justified.
He remarked, “Tyla’s Grammy win wasn’t unfair. I fail to see any unfairness. I’m genuinely struggling to find it.
“Globally, in my view, ‘Water’ held slightly more sway than the Nigerian contenders. It’s not to say those Nigerian songs weren’t significant; they were. However, ‘Water’ had a certain vibrancy to it. It resonated strongly, particularly on platforms like TikTok.”
