Timber made the switch to Arsenal from Ajax last summer in a deal worth £38 million but has seen action in only two matches for the Gunners.
His Premier League debut was marred by a severe ACL injury during a match against Nottingham Forest.
Despite this setback, the Netherlands international managed to feature for 76 minutes as Arsenal secured victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield.
“Of course, there have been moments where it’s been challenging because you’re not on the pitch, and that’s what you love to do,” Timber revealed to Arsenal’s website.
“At times, you’re really eager to contribute to the team – when you’re watching the game and you’re enjoying it so much, you just want to be out there and be a part of it.
“It’s frustrating because sometimes it looks so fantastic, and you’re longing to be involved.”
