In a candid conversation with Chude Jideonwo, Ruggedman criticized the notion that Afrobeats represents talent, suggesting instead that it often serves as a refuge for artists lacking genuine skill.

“When questioned about Afrobeats, my response would be that Afrobeats is what many talentless individuals are using as a facade,” stated Ruggedman during the interview.

He further emphasized, “While some proclaim ‘Afrobeats to the world,’ I beg to differ. It’s not about the Afrobeats genre per se, but rather about certain artists.”

Addressing criticisms about his own career trajectory, Ruggedman admitted to feeling hurt by comments on social media suggesting his artistic prime had passed. However, he found solace in the realization that his influence persists, as he remarked, “Regardless of what the trolls say, whoever they are listening to right now is likely inspired by me.”
