Governor Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Jola Akintola, highlighted the significance of the National Policy on Food Safety and Implementation Strategy (NPFSIS), emphasizing its role in establishing a modern and efficient national food safety system. He underscored the government’s moral and legal obligation to shield the public from diseases, disabilities, and fatalities arising from the consumption of unsafe food and water.
Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Health, emphasized the necessity of collaboration with development partners like WHO, UNICEF, NCDC, NAFDAC, and others to guarantee the effective implementation and sustainability of the policy.
In his welcome address, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, stressed the importance of consuming safe food for building immunity against diseases. He contrasted this with the severe consequences of consuming unsafe food, which can lead to organ failure and death. The adoption of the policy aligns with the resolutions from the 58th meeting of the National Council on Health (NCH) held in Sokoto State in 2016, he added.
