Around 7:28 p.m., Air Commodore Ijudigal, commuting home in his staff car after work, encountered a distressing scene. An Abuja-painted taxi (Mazda 323, registration BWR 232 XB) was reversing at high speed with terrified passengers screaming for help. Pursuing the taxi was a black Toyota Land Cruiser. Acting instinctively, Air Commodore Ijudigal joined the pursuit, using his official vehicle to block the criminals’ escape route.

The ‘one-chance’ vehicle, in a state of panic, collided with Air Commodore Ijudigal’s official vehicle, causing significant damage to both cars. The impact sent the ‘one-chance’ vehicle skidding into a nearby garden. Following the collision, Air Commodore Ijudigal swiftly exited his vehicle and chased after one of the occupants who had fled into a nearby bush.

With the assistance of onlookers, the driver of the ‘one-chance’ vehicle and two other suspects (a male and a female) were apprehended, and two female victims were rescued. Air Commodore Ijudigal immediately contacted the nearest police post and ensured the three criminals were handed over to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Mr. Benneth Igweh, at his office.

FCT Commissioner of Police praised Air Commodore Ijudigal for his courageous intervention, emphasizing that it not only foiled the robbery/kidnapping attempt but also played a crucial role in apprehending criminals posing a security risk to law-abiding citizens of the FCT. The Commissioner commended the senior officer’s act as a demonstration of bravery and unwavering commitment to public service, stating that his swift and decisive measures averted a potential tragedy and reinstated confidence in the security forces.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, also commended Air Commodore Ijudigal for his bravery and selfless service. Air Commodore Ijudigal, a former NAF Deputy Director of Sports and the current Deputy Director of Logistics at the Defence Headquarters, received recognition for his exemplary actions in ensuring the safety and security of the public.
