Olawale, displeased with the Principal’s actions, returned to the school later with his parents. Efforts to explain the situation and pacify the parents failed, leading to an attack on the Principal. In the midst of the chaos, Olawale reportedly slapped one of the teachers and tore his clothes.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, confirmed the incident on February 18, condemning the behavior. He assured that the student and his parents would face legal consequences for their actions, emphasizing the need to prosecute them for their misdemeanor.
The Commissioner highlighted that the state government would not tolerate such behavior in schools, referencing a past incident where a parent engaging in similar conduct received six months of community service. Despite reported pleas from the parents, the Commissioner insisted on pursuing legal action to send a clear message and discourage others from resorting to such unacceptable behavior.
The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Ogun State, Comrade Seun Agbesanwa, also condemned the incident. He urged the state government to impose appropriate sanctions on those involved in the assault on both the teacher and the principal, emphasizing the importance of discouraging such actions through decisive measures.
