On February 21, Nigerian law enforcement agencies, such as the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), conducted a joint operation targeting several Bureau De Change (BDC) establishments in the Sabo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Sabo, a prominent district in Ibadan and the capital of Oyo State, functions as a central hub for currency exchange activities within the region.
Videos capturing the incident circulated widely on social media, depicting the intense scene as heavily armed security operatives and their convoy navigated through the busy Sabo road.
This operation coincides with escalating concerns regarding the depreciation of the Nigerian naira, which has experienced significant declines against major foreign currencies, including the U.S. dollar. The raid underscores the government’s efforts to address issues related to currency exchange and financial crimes in response to the economic challenges faced by the nation.
