Authorities responded to a Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) call around 2:00 AM, discovering Phehello Mpele with a fatal stab wound upon arrival at the scene, according to Thembeka Maxambela, a police spokesperson.
The dispute, rooted in a disagreement over a girl, escalated tragically, resulting in the untimely death of the young victim. The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, has been detained and appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. The case has been postponed to allow for further investigations, and the suspect remains in custody.
The mother of the accused, Mimi Mpele, expressed her grief and disbelief in an interview with journalists on Wednesday. She is determined to seek the truth, challenging the narrative presented by questioning the validity of the ‘girlfriend’ explanation provided by the suspect. Mimi Mpele emphasizes her son’s friendly nature and disputes the idea that a trivial argument could lead to such a devastating outcome.
“My son had many friends, including girls. I do not believe that he died because of an argument over a girl. That is just a made-up story; the boy must just tell the truth about why he killed my son. If they were fighting, why does he not have even the slightest of injuries?” she questioned.
As the community grapples with the shocking incident, the grieving mother seeks clarity and justice, while the legal proceedings continue with the suspect behind bars.
