Shehu Sani Urges Overhaul Of Outdated Oronsaye Report For Effective Implementation....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has voiced concerns about the outdated nature of the Oronsaye Report, emphasizing the need for an update before any implementation. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani highlighted that the report, commissioned in 2012 to streamline and restructure federal government entities, has become obsolete in the face of a proliferation of new agencies and commissions.
Sani argued that legislators’ performance evaluations are often tied to the number of bills they sponsor or the creation of federal agencies resulting from their initiatives. This approach has led to a surge in the number of agencies and commissions in the country. However, Sani contended that this approach does not align with the economic realities of the nation.
He expressed concern over the tendency for lawmakers to propose numerous commissions without considering the country’s limited resources. Sani pointed out that, in a nation of 224 million people with scarce resources, the creation of some agencies has been impractical and irrelevant.
Sani called for the implementation of the Oronsaye Report, which aimed to rationalize and restructure government entities. However, he suggested that the report could be enhanced by updating it to account for new commissions and agencies established since its inception. Sani proposed that the President should invite Oronsaye and his committee to update the report based on the evolving landscape of commissions and agencies in the country, emphasizing the current outdated status of the report.
