The grieving father, Sampson Sekidika, previously shared with BUSHRADIOGIST the tragic circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death on February 2, 2024, during a medical procedure at Paragon Clinics and Image Diagnosis in Port Harcourt. The funeral service, held at the ‘Vaults and Gardens’ within the Port Harcourt Cemetery, featured a touching ceremony presided over by Bishop Chris Ebata.
Mourners sang hymns, including ‘When Peace Like a River’ and ‘Rock of Ages,’ setting a solemn tone for the service. Bishop Ebata delivered a heartfelt homily, emphasizing the inevitability of mortality and urging attendees to reflect on their lives. He highlighted Rebekah’s devotion to God, urging others to heed her spiritual message.
Amid prayers for strength to endure the loss, the cleric subtly alluded to possible circumstances leading to Rebekah’s demise, expressing hopes for corrective measures in Nigeria’s healthcare system. The family’s plea for justice persisted, with Sampson Sekidika reiterating claims of medical negligence that he believes caused his daughter’s untimely death.
Sampson, distressed and seeking justice, lamented the loss of a promising life cut short due to what he perceives as the incompetence of the medical team. He shared the profound impact of Rebekah’s academic achievements and outlined her thwarted plans to pursue higher studies in the United Kingdom.
The burial event was marked by overwhelming sorrow, with attendees sobbing uncontrollably during the viewing of Rebekah’s remains and the graveside interment. As rain showers fell upon her final resting place, a somber mood enveloped the Port Harcourt cemetery, underscoring the profound grief experienced by all who knew and loved the young graduate.
