Former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, has asserted that had the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi won the 2023 election, they would have encountered challenges akin to those faced by Bola Tinubu. Chidoka attributes this potential predicament to the economic impact of the eight years under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he accuses of having “destroyed” Nigeria’s economy.

In an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Chidoka expressed his views on the adverse effects of Buhari’s governance, describing it as eight years of destruction that significantly diminished the country’s value. He highlighted the government’s acquisition of 23 trillion in Ways and Means and borrowing in dollars as factors hindering the nation’s foreign exchange capabilities.

Chidoka emphasized that any incoming government, whether led by Atiku, Obi, or Sowore, would have faced substantial challenges due to the economic damage inflicted by the previous administration. He pointed out that President Buhari’s current difficulties are not solely economic but also involve political consensus, suggesting that Tinubu lacks widespread support in Nigeria for making tough decisions.

According to Chidoka, the majority of voters did not support Tinubu, and he faces the challenge of garnering political consensus to implement necessary reforms. The former minister urged Tinubu to appeal to the broader population to overcome these hurdles.

"The damage by the Buhari government was humongous, to cure that damage there is no switch board you can just light and change everything overnight, any government that comes in would have faced significant headwinds whether it was Atiku, Obi or Sowore."
