The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has faced criticism from the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who expressed disapproval of their two-day nationwide protest against the prevailing economic hardship. Umahi, during an inspection of the Enugu-Port Harcourt road on Monday, rebuked the NLC for engaging in four strikes within a span of nine months, deeming their actions unpatriotic.
The former Governor of Ebonyi State asserted that the NLC’s actions do not reflect a sense of patriotism or an understanding of the nation’s challenges. Umahi emphasized the commitment of the Bola Tinubu administration to addressing the country’s issues and urged Nigerians to be patient and supportive.
Umahi praised President Tinubu’s dedication to the country’s well-being, stating, “Mr President is a man that is committed. He came to overturn our misfortunes.” He encouraged patience with the ongoing efforts, highlighting the need for Nigerians to collaborate in various sectors for the nation’s progress.
Addressing the perennial issue of hunger in the country, Umahi acknowledged its historical persistence, extending beyond past administrations. He urged citizens to support the federal government’s economic reforms and emphasized the role of increased agricultural activities in mitigating hunger.
Highlighting the security challenges affecting farming communities, Umahi recognized the need to ensure safety before encouraging agricultural expansion. He concluded by reiterating the historical context of the hunger issue and called for unity and cooperation in supporting the government’s initiatives for national development.
