Reports indicate that a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shared insights during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. The PDP leader, Chidoka, asserted that if Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, or Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), had emerged victorious in the 2023 election, they would have encountered challenges similar to those faced by the current situation of Bola Tinubu.

Chidoka attributed these challenges to the economic damage inflicted on Nigeria during the eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He emphasized that the Buhari-led government, particularly in the last eight years, significantly and unprecedentedly undermined the country’s economic value. According to Chidoka, the administration acquired 23 trillion in Ways and Means and borrowed substantial amounts in dollars, hindering the government’s foreign exchange capabilities.

The PDP chieftain pointed out that addressing the aftermath of such damage was not a simple task, and any government, whether led by Atiku, Obi, or Sowore, would have faced substantial hurdles. Chidoka clarified that the current challenges faced by President Buhari were not solely economic, as the nation was gradually recovering before. He highlighted the manipulation of foreign exchange rates and the selling of the currency at an inflated N400, a practice that the current president aims to rectify.

In the context of Bola Tinubu’s political challenges, Chidoka emphasized the lack of political consensus in Nigeria for the tough decisions Tinubu needs to make. He noted that the voters who supported Tinubu were a minority, with 63 percent of voters not endorsing him. Chidoka suggested that Tinubu must work towards winning the support of this majority to effectively navigate the political landscape and address the pressing issues facing the nation.
