Represented by the Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, President Tinubu underscored the importance of government and philanthropic contributions to supporting police veterans at various levels. He recognized the significant sacrifices made by these veterans for the peace and security of Nigeria and emphasized the deserving nature of their support.

President Tinubu disclosed plans to initiate measures to designate a National Police and Veterans’ Day in Nigeria, commemorating their invaluable contributions to the country’s development and peace. He assured comprehensive backing for the Veterans Foundation and committed to promptly reviewing the pension and severance packages of retired police officers, acknowledging the substantial nature of their service to the nation.

“As the President of our dear country, I will not only give my full support to the Veterans Foundation but will also ensure that such areas like improving the pension and severance package of retired Police Officers are immediately reviewed to reflect the enormity of their contributions and commitment to our country.”

President Tinubu further revealed intentions to expedite administrative processes for the issuance of an Executive Order designating a specific day, possibly March 5th or April 1st, as National Police and Veterans’ Day in Nigeria. He highlighted the critical role of the Nigeria Police Force as a symbol of state legitimacy and the leading entity in the country’s internal security architecture.

Addressing current challenges, President Tinubu urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the government, emphasizing that these difficulties represent necessary sacrifices for the greater good of the nation. The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, lauded the launch of the Police Veterans’ Foundation as a significant milestone for both serving and retired members of the Nigeria Police Force. Arase expressed confidence in leveraging the rich experiences of retired officers to formulate policies enhancing the optimal functionality of the Nigeria Police.
