The Ebonyi State Police Command has responded to a widely circulated video depicting some officers within its command assaulting individuals during a raid in a local community. The video, shared by a Nigerian on social media platform X, showed officers slapping, flogging, and kicking young men they intended to apprehend.

In an official statement, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, denounced the officers’ behavior as ‘uncivil’ and announced that appropriate administrative measures were underway. He assured the public that a thorough investigation into the incident had been initiated to ensure justice and the imposition of suitable disciplinary actions.

DSP Ukandu’s statement reads:

“The command has taken note of a viral video on social media depicting the uncivil conduct of some police officers attached to the command. The command unequivocally condemns their unprofessional conduct, and necessary administrative measures have already been initiated. A detailed investigation into the incident has commenced to ensure justice and appropriate disciplinary action.

Commissioner Of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Augustina Ogbodo, psc, reiterates through this medium that no form of incivility towards members of the public or any misconduct by any police officer(s) will be tolerated under her watch. She urges residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that any police officer found wanting will face severe disciplinary actions.
