According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, initial investigations indicate that Ibrahim Yahaya, aged 27, was apprehended by operatives of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Task Force. Subsequently, he was brought before a mobile court, which convenes every Tuesday in Wuse Market, and was subsequently convicted.
Adeh explained that Yahaya and other individuals were being transported to the prison when he attempted to escape by jumping from the vehicle. Pursued by two armed corrections personnel, Yahaya was shot during the chase and immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by attending doctors.
The unfortunate incident triggered a violent reaction from onlookers, resulting in the torching of eight vehicles and ten shops in the vicinity. The chaos prompted an immediate response from the Federal Fire Service and other security agencies present, eventually bringing the situation under control.
While normalcy has been restored, investigations are still ongoing. Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth Igweh psc, mni, has urged residents to resume their lawful activities without fear.
