The Kano State Police have successfully returned approximately N9.9 million, erroneously transferred to a Point of Sale (POS) operator, to its rightful owner at the Dawanau Grain International Market in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area. In an announcement made on Thursday, March 14, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, revealed the details.

According to Kiyawa, the police received a report from a diligent POS operator who noticed an erroneous transfer of N10 million instead of N10,000 by an unidentified customer. Acting promptly, the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, instructed a discreet investigation to ascertain the true owner and return the funds accordingly.

After three months of meticulous investigation, the police successfully traced the original recipient of the substantial sum. Kiyawa stated, “On March 14, the investigation was concluded with the identification of the rightful owner, a trader at the renowned Dawanau Grains Market in Dawakin Tofa.” The trader, whose identity was withheld, expressed gratitude towards both the POS operator and the police for their unwavering efforts. In a gesture of appreciation, he gifted the POS operator with N500,000 as a token of his gratitude. Furthermore, he commended the commissioner for fostering a culture of honesty and integrity within the police force, hailing it as a model of exemplary leadership.
