President Bola Tinubu has made a firm commitment to immortalize the fallen military personnel who lost their lives in Okuoma Community, Delta State. He affirmed that these courageous individuals will receive dignified burials and national honors as a mark of respect for their sacrifice.
Offering condolences to the families of the deceased, Tinubu emphasized that the bravery and dedication exhibited by these fallen heroes will always be remembered and honored.
The tragic incident occurred during a peacekeeping mission, resulting in the loss of 17 military personnel, prompting widespread condemnation across various sectors.
“In responding to distress calls, they met the end of their lives in a savage manner. Let us work to sympathize and symbolize the fact that they are worth the sacrifices they have made for Nigeria,” Tinubu remarked, expressing solidarity with the uniformed men and women.
Tinubu further pledged to announce additional measures to ensure that the fallen soldiers receive the appropriate tributes they deserve, including dignified burials and national honors.
In another context, President Tinubu urged members of the National Assembly to exercise caution in summoning heads of government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) before parliamentary committees. While acknowledging the importance of oversight in maintaining transparency and accountability, he cautioned against excessive summoning of officials, which could disrupt operations and impede service delivery.
Addressing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and other House leaders during a Ramadan fast-breaking event in Abuja, Tinubu stressed the need for discretion in exercising oversight functions.
“I have been observing various committees summoning ministers and heads of agencies. I have raised concerns with the Speaker to exercise moderation,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing the importance of balance in oversight activities to ensure effective governance without undue disruption.
