Successful Operation: Amotekun Stops Bank Robbery, Nabs 36 Suspected Criminals In Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, successfully intervened to prevent a potential bank robbery by a seven-man gang in Irele Local Government Area. Revealing this development to reporters on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the security group’s headquarters in Akure, Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye stated that the gang had also planned to abduct a local businessman.

Presenting 36 other suspects apprehended for various offenses, Adeleye disclosed that the armed robbery gang, originating from Sapele, Delta State, had targeted both kidnapping and bank robbery activities. While six of the robbers remain at large, authorities managed to capture the mastermind who harbored them.

Adeleye emphasized the dual nature of the gang’s operation, indicating their intention to carry out both robbery and kidnapping schemes. Efforts to pursue the escaped leader, believed to have fled to Delta State, are underway in collaboration with relevant governmental and security bodies.

The intended targets included three banks and the Managing Director of a local supermarket, with evidence suggesting collaboration with a staff member of the targeted supermarket who ultimately declined involvement.

Additionally, among the apprehended suspects are individuals specializing in the vandalism of crucial government infrastructure. Notably, operatives intercepted a group attempting to steal pipes allocated for a World Bank-funded water project, preventing their illicit activities.

Adeleye urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to bolster security efforts, reaffirming Amotekun’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in collaboration with other security agencies across the state.
